Federal Open-Case Investigation Services
Federal cases are serious, complex, and often overwhelming.
At Criminal Defense Services Inc., we created our Federal Open-Case Division to provide professional investigative support for individuals facing federal charges.
We are not attorneys, and we do not replace your lawyer. Our role is to support the defense with factual investigation, documentation, witness development, and organized reporting.
Who We Are
Criminal Defense Services Inc. is a Washington-based investigative agency located in the Liberty Building in downtown Yakima. Our office is staffed with support personnel and multiple Washington State licensed private investigators who work together as a team.
Because our investigators collaborate under one roof, cases often benefit from multiple perspectives, stronger analysis, and a more complete investigative approach.
What We Can Help With
Our Federal Open-Case Division may assist with:
- Witness interviews
- Collecting statements
- Timeline development
- Background checks
- Records requests
- Scene photographs and videos
- Alibi verification
- Outside research
- Structured investigative reports
- Attorney-approved discovery review when permitted
How We Accept Federal Cases
To protect the client, counsel, and the integrity of the case, we accept federal matters under one or more of the following circumstances:
1. Attorney-approved involvement
If the case requires review of federal discovery protected by court order, attorney approval is required before we access or review that material.
2. State-originated investigations
If the case began with local police, sheriff’s deputies, or state patrol, we may be able to collect state-level records and build an investigative foundation without needing federal discovery.
3. Outside field work
We may conduct work that does not require federal discovery review, such as witness interviews, scene visits, background checks, timeline development, and outside statement collection.
Federal Mitigation Reports
We also prepare professional mitigation reports for federal sentencing. These reports may document:
- Personal and family history
- Family and community support
- Trauma, mental health, and life circumstances
- Rehabilitation efforts
- Institutional programming
- Reentry planning
- Housing, employment, and support systems
Federal Mitigation Report Fee: $2,500
Flat Fee Structure
Our Federal Open-Case investigation retainer is a flat fee of $6,000.
There are no hourly fees, no surprise billing, and no extra charges for ordinary communication or updates. Extensive travel or out-of-state travel, if needed, is discussed in advance.
What Happens After Retaining Us
After payment clears, the client is assigned a licensed private investigator. The investigator will begin case review, schedule communication or a legal visit when appropriate, and begin the investigative work that fits the case.
Once the main portion of the investigation is complete, we provide a structured investigative report. We may also remain available for additional attorney-requested work until the case concludes.
